Police body cam footage shows the dramatic moment a man was arrested in Sugar Creek, Missouri on Monday.
Officers chased down Aaron Fletcher in his vehicle, before pulling him over and smashing his window after he failed to immediately step out of the car.
Police then dragged Fletcher from the automobile, hit him with a baton and placed him face down on the ground.
In the video, he can be heard wailing before crying out: 'I can't breathe!'
'If you can talk, you can breathe!' a policeman responds. Sugar Creek Police Department has defended the actions of its officers, with Police Chief Chris Soule saying 'they did what they were trained to do'.
Fletcher caught the attention of the authorities early Monday morning after he arrived at City Hall to request an officer's personnel fine.
They later learned he had six active warrants and no valid driver's license.
Following his arrest, police allege that Fletcher refused to cooperate after they took him to the local station. He is 'being held on a $4,000 bond and faces charges of driving while revoked, eluding the police, resisting arrest and failure to obey a lawful order' according to Fox4KC.
Police further claim that Fletcher has previously been armed in encounters with officers, LiveLeak reports.
Monday's dramatic arrest was also recorded by a neighbor, who filmed the unfolding scene on their cell phone.
In that vision, an officer approaches the person filming and asks them to step inside for their own safety.
